Aspen Words’ Caroline Tory

In addition to being Associate Director of Aspen Words, Caroline is an accomplished competitive athlete competing in mountain biking, trail running and ski mountaineering. Among Caroline’s many races, she has achieved one of Aspen’s famed events, the Power of Four Triple Crown and won!

Caroline shared with us literary works that she is currently reading and finding inspiring:

  • The literary magazine Sewanee Review has launched a series called the Corona Correspondences <click here> whereby various authors reflect on the crisis as it unfolds. It’s comforting to read these short insights from some of the great writers today, including past Aspen Words speakers Ben Fountain, Stephanie Danler and Richard Russo.

  •  I can always count on New Yorker writer Adam Gopnik to lift my spirits and transport me to a delicious restaurant or Parisian boulevard in his books. Read “Paris to The Moon,” “The Table Comes First” or “At The Strangers Gate” for a comforting break from reality.

  • I’m trying to read all of the Aspen Words Literary Prize finalists <click here> before we announce the winner on April 16. We are inviting people to join our reading challenge <Instagram>!

  • A collection of Mary Oliver poems – “Devotions.” A spiritual road map and a reminder of our interconnectedness.

  • Lori Gottlieb’s “Maybe You Should Talk To Someone.” Honest, down-to-earth, thoughtful and funny, this book pulls back the curtain on therapy and is a reassuring reminder that we all struggle at times.

  • And of course check out Aspen Words blog for book recommendations for more amazing literary works. Aspen Words Blog
